Кто их там знает? Может, они заключили соглашение с К.? А в принципе, если у К. протокол запатентован (я не проверял, но Canon одна из ведущих фирм по числу патентов), то Сигма ходит под топором. Reengineering и patent infringеment - любой суд выиграют.
Ну, а чисто практически - EOS flash и так настолько сложная штука, то я купил 550 не в последнюю очередь, чтобы навсегда исключить вопрос неправильной работы вспышки. Т.е. чтобы винил только себя, если что.

There should be no impact on the flash due to E-TTL II, since the camera controls the flash exposure based on its implementation of the camera's evaluative metering. That's why there is no impact on Canon EX Speedlites.
The reason that Metz flash units do not work with E-TTL II is because Metz uses their own "psuedo E-TTL" implementation, probably due to some potential patent infringement problem. If you want true E-TTL and/or E-TTL II implementation, stick with Canon Speedlites.
